At this year’s Health.Tech Global Summit, I had the privilege to chair a discussion between Kim Boyd, Chief Medical Officer Weight Watchers and Sebastian Meyhofer Vice President, Clinical, Medical & Regulatory Novo Nordisk. Our discussion highlighted a fundamental shift underway in how we think about and treat obesity.
For years, the conversation has been dominated by weight: kilograms lost, percentage reductions, and headline-grabbing efficacy data. But that framing is rapidly becoming outdated. The emerging consensus is that obesity is not a weight problem, it is a chronic, complex disease requiring holistic, longitudinal care.
This shift has been catalysed by the arrival of highly effective GLP-1 therapies.
